VILLAGERS in Ardleigh are being urged to have their say on proposals for a new Neighbourhood Plan being developed by the people living there.

Neighbourhood Plans are a way for communities to create policies to help influence factors including the right type of development for their community while meeting the needs of the wider area.

Draft plans are available to view online here as well paper plans available through Parish Council Clerks.

Plans are already in place for Boxted, Myland and Braiswick, Wivenhoe, West Bergholt, Eight Ash Green, Marks Tey, West Mersea, Tiptree, and Copford with Easthorpe.

Residents in both Ardleigh and Elmstead will go to the polls on Thursday, September 12, to vote in referendums on whether their villages adopt the plans.

If adopted, the plans have the same legal status as the district wide Local Plan and will be used alongside it in deciding planning applications that fall within that area.

Ian Davidson, counting officer for the referendums, said: “I would like to urge voters in Ardleigh and Elmstead to cast their ballots in the referendums on September 12 and help shape the future development of their parishes.

Information about the referendums and the by-election is available on Tendring Council’s website at http://www.tendringdc.gov.uk/elections.

The deadline for registering to vote was August 27.
