A HARWICH man has helped raise more than £800 for the town's historic cinema through a free virtual community game.
David Cole, a physical activity coordinator from Community Voluntary Services Tendring completed a 12-hour walkathon for the Electric Palace Theatre.
David played Street Tag – a free community game where people tap locations for points – as part of his ‘walkathon’ around Harwich, visiting businesses and supporters on his way.
His walk started at 7.10am at the Harwich and Dovercourt Hub and finished at the Electric Palace at 19.11pm to mark the date the cinema opened in 1911.
He raised a total of £882 for the Electric Palace, covering 24.5 miles, and completing 56,000 steps around Harwich.
David said: “Every donation that was made will help keep this amazing part of our community going.
“'The Electric Palace is a charity, run by a trust, and needs our help. Their core aim is to raise £70,000 of funding to be used on upgrading equipment, creating sustainable fundraising activities, and raise awareness of the cinema and the trust.”
David added: “The Electric Palace is a place that is very special, and a huge part of Harwich history.
“I want to help make it part of Harwich’s future too.”
