HARWICH Town Council have extended its music and memory dementia singing sessions for another three years.
The ‘Music and Memory’ singing sessions are held on the third Wednesday of the month at the Park Pavilion from 2pm to 3pm.
Harwich councillor Margaret Saunders, who helps with the group, said sessions can attract up to 30 people.
Fellow councillor John Wade also helps, with David Chable and Louise Armstrong on standby.
Councillor David Smith – who recently revealed he has Lewy body dementia - said: “Music is very important for people with dementia for various reasons, and for memory.
“Music can bring back all sorts of memories for some.”
From April 2025, Music and Memory has been extended for another three years at the cost of £3,132 with further funding of £1,000 secured.
It was also revealed that a private individual had donated £100 - enough to pay for two sessions.
No booking is required for the sessions, which start at 1.30pm and include refreshments.
Harwich Town Council is also hosting a dementia fundraising walk on Saturday, September 21, starting at 10am from the Leading Lights on Dovercourt seafront.
