A residents association is urging people to hand in their disused mobility aids to avoid them ending up in landfill.
Parkston Welfare Park and Residents Association has a community initiative called ‘Aid in U’ which is a free service for people to hand in mobility aids instead of throwing them away.
Parkeston and Harwich councillor Bill Davidson said: “Thank you to everybody in Parkeston, Harwich, Dovercourt, Oakley, Clacton and surrounding Tendring areas that have donated their no longer needed aids to us to recycle to those now in need.
“This community initiative is a totally free service that stops these aids being thrown away and then ending up in landfill."
Mr Davidson said in the past week alone five wheelchairs, 12 Zimmer frames, four walkers, four commodes, three pairs of crutches, a toilet frame, toilet seat raisers, shower stalls, and a perch stall have been donated.
In the same period, two lightweight wheelchairs, two large wheelchairs, five walkers, a tripod walking stick, three commodes, three shower stalls, a perch stall, bath swivel aid, two walking sticks, and a toilet frame have been given away.
Mr Davidson also thanked Emily Poyser-Beezley for “always going above and beyond” when helping Aid in U.
