HARWICH Secret Gardens has donated £2,000 to good causes, including the Salvation Army and the Horse Rangers after hundreds showed their support in July.
On Tuesday night at the Old Bank Studios in Harwich, the Harwich Secret Gardens presented £2,000 to good causes and a £1,000 was also set aside for hanging baskets in Harwich next year for people who do have a garden.
Recipients included the Salvation Army food bank, Horse Rangers, the Butterfly Project at the Ark, the Electric Palace Cinema, and Harwich Girl Guides.
Spokesman Frances Vincent said: “Despite being the worst weekend weather-wise to open gardens back in July, and although numbers were down, people still turned out in their hundreds and said how much they wanted to support us, and this was echoed throughout conversations with gardeners.
“The committee and I am sure all the gardeners, whilst enjoying the event, realise how important this weekend is for people, not just locally but from further afield.”
July was the 14th year of Harwich Secret Gardens.
The date for next year's event is the first weekend in July.
