A FIREWALKING fundraising event is taking place this Sunday at a Harwich pub in aid of a vital community centre in Harwich.
The Ark Centre on Main Road has overcome a difficult year, facing the threat of closure last September, with the venue’s costs varying between £20,000 and £25,000 per month.
Its nursery, which turned 70 last December, was saved thanks to the generosity of Harwich’s residents and visitors, including their now charity partner the Royal Oak Pub who last November raised an incredible £3,000 for The Ark Centre.
A year later, the firewalk will return on Sunday November 3 with firewalkers taking to the coals after dark from 6pm at – with there being some places available as of writing.
Members of the public are being invited to watch the brave walkers and there will be live music from Mandy and Rob after the event where people walk the coals in turn.
The Ark Centre provides a nursery for two to five-year-olds, an outreach team that supports families with everything from parenting budgeting to domestic abuse support, social care intervention and this September to create a baby group.
