HUNDFREDS of pounds have been raised in a fire walk for Harwich's The Ark Centre which is going "from strength to strength" after nearly closing down last year.

On Sunday, eight brave walkers stepped on to the hot coals for The Ark Centre, which nearly closed in 2023 as it needed to raise between £20,000 to £25,000 each month in order to keep running.

Last November, 14 people took part walking over coals in November at the Royal Oak pub to generate cash and in December, the Bottle Kiln hosted a quiz night, which in addition to other efforts raised £18,000.

In total £1,200 has been raised.

Claire Bridges, charity centre manger, said: "I’m so grateful for all that pulled together to make this event happen for the second year running.

"Who knows what we will do next watch this space, but it really does show the love Harwich & Dovercourt have for The Ark. We are overwhelmed.
