AN elderly man has sustained “serious injuries” after a collision with a van on a road in Harwich this morning.
Police officers were called to reports of a collision involving a silver Ford Transit courier van and a pedestrian on Main Road, at the junction with King George’s Avenue, at about 7.40am.
The pedestrian, a man in his 80s, suffered what police described as “potentially serious injuries" to his arm and head.
The force is now issuing an appeal for anyone with information about the incident to come forward.

The area surrounding Main Road and King George’s Avenue includes Harwich and Parkeston Football Club and Asda Harwich.
Harwich councillor Garry Calver represents the Dovercourt Bay Ward where the incident took place.
He said he was shocked to hear about the incident.
Mr Calver said: “It is very sad to learn that someone has been injured in this accident, and we must hope he achieves a full recovery.
“I would urge anyone with any information to follow-up on the police request for witnesses and information. “
The East of England Ambulance Service was also called to the scene at 7.40am this morning, a spokesman confirmed.
Three ambulance vehicles rushed to the scene.
The spokesman said: "An ambulance, an ambulance officer vehicle and a rapid response vehicle were sent to the scene.
“The pedestrian, an adult male, was transported to Colchester Hospital for further care."
The elderly man's current condition is unknown.
