AN independent political party in Tendring is throwing its weight behind an independent candidate standing for the new Essex police commissioner role.

Tendring First, which formally led an administration in charge of Tendring Council, invited independents standing in November’s election to air their ideas at a special meeting at Frinton Methodist Church.

Linda Belgrove, Mick Thwaites and John Gili Ross were each invited to talk for ten minutes, following which a ballot took place to decide who the party would support.

Following the ballot, the party voted in favour of supporting Mrs Belgrove, who was formerly an independent member and vice-chairman of the Essex Police Authority.
