A MIDWIFERY assistant has admitted to looking after cocaine for a drug dealer as well as driving while unfit through drugs in Harwich.
Lisa McKeever, from Northsea View, Dovercourt, appeared before Chelmsford Crown Court on Tuesday.
The 53-year-old admitted possession of 6.87g of cocaine with intent to supply and being in possession of £1,240 in cash, that she knew or suspected to be the proceeds of a criminal act, in Main Road on May 15, 2020.
Recorder Charlie Sherrard said: “The essence of the plea in relation to both the drugs and the cash is that she was holding for another, but knowing in relation to the drugs that they were to be supplied.
“And in so far as the cash is concerned, knowing that it was derived from a drugs business, but she had no proprietary interest over either.”
McKeever previously admitted related charges of possession of 0.71g of Class A drug cocaine and 0.32g of Class B amphetamine when she appeared before at magistrates.
She also admitted to driving a Ford S-Max vehicle while unfit through drugs on Main Road, Dovercourt, on May 15, 2020.
But those matters were committed up to the crown court to be dealt with at the same time as the more serious charges of possession of cocaine with intent to supply and being in possession of the proceeds of a criminal act.
Philippa Beswick, mitigating, said a number of factors need to be taken into account before sentencing.
She said: “There are a number of matters regarding Mrs McKeever’s personal life, both past and present, and her exemplary work record as a midwifery assistant.”
She added that health matters should also be taken into account as well as her “previous good character”.
Sentencing was adjourned for a full pre-sentence report to take place.
Record Sherrard told McKeever it was a “serious matter”, but added: “From what I can see, prior to these matters she was previously of good character.”
McKeever was released on unconditional bail until her sentencing hearing in the week of April 26.
