HARWICH and Dovercourt are celebrating their second consecutive North Essex Cricket League promotion.
However, it did not come in manner they would have wanted.
They knew promotion would be confirmed if they won their back-to-back T20 encounters with Purleigh, on Sunday.
However, their opponents conceded the fixtures, meaning the job was wrapped up without a ball being bowled.
Dom Guizelar’s side have now added a division three promotion to the one they earned from division four last year.
“I was hoping to seal our promotion in better fashion, by winning our double-header,” said the skipper.
“Purleigh called off an hour before the first game was supposed to start, which was massively frustrating.
“It would seem no-one wants to play us at the moment, which I suppose is a back-handed compliment.
“However, this weekend we play our final game of the season, at home to Cavaliers.
“I’ve been in contact with them and they’ve assured me they will be fulfilling the fixture.”
Food and drink is being laid on at the club and everyone is welcome to join the squad for a celebration after Sunday’s match.
