A FUNDRAISING football match between Harwich Angels and former Colchester United star Karl Duguid’s Local Legends is to take place in aid of the Alzheimer's Society.
The charity match will take place on Sunday, August 4, with gates opening at noon at Harwich and Parkeston FC in Dovercourt for a 2pm kick-off.
Harwich Angels FC will go head-to-head with former Colchester United professionals who make up Karl Duguid’s Local Legends team.
This is the third charity fundraising match by the Harwich Angels who previously played against former Tottenham Hotspur professionals in 2022 and the Arsenal Foundation in 2021.
This year’s event, which is sponsored by Freight 365, is in aid of the Alzheimer's Society, the UK’s leading dementia charity.
Harwich Angels FC manger Martin Warnes said the match was initially instigated by Harwich and Parkeston FC ex-chairman Barry Vernon, who died in April.
Martin said: “He approached myself and said can we get a game in aid of Alzheimer’s. He spoke to Karl and managed to get this game off the ground.
“Unfortunately, Barry has not been able to see it to the end which is very poignant from that point of view.”
There will be a barbecue, bar and DJ at the event, which is expected to see more than 1,000 fans in attendance.
