LITTLE Oakley beat Romford 3-1 in an enthralling game to progress to the next round of the BBC Essex Senior Cup, writes LARRY DOBKIN.

Romford started much the better and a flowing move on the edge of the area ended in Jake Gordon's speculative shot sailing wide.

Gordon was causing Oakley problems when a run to the byline ended in a weak shot that was saved by Betts.

After 15 minutes of Romford attacking, Oakley started to get a foothold in the tie.

Noah Asterling showed great control by pulling a ball down from above his shoulder and finding a pass to Dan Rowe, whose shot was well saved by the keeper.

George Davis’s forward run and shot was saved by Harry Girling.

But the Romford keeper could only push the ball into the air, allowing Keating to convert and put the Acorns ahead.

Oakley were now in full-out attack mode, with chances falling to Bobby Rea, Rowe and Mills but not converted.

And Romford equalised through before the break through Jaiden Babalola, who side-footed the ball through the keeper’s legs, from Amaree Robinson-Jones' cross.

The second half started with Connor Hogan finding himself in space outside the Oakley box, forcing Betts into a strong save.

But Oakley restored their lead when Darren Mills sent a brilliant 40-yard chip over the keeper's head, after being picked out by Rowe.

Romford had not given up and started to mount a series of attacks but Oakley managed the play well.

And Rowe then exchanged passes with Mills before firing past the keeper to seal the Acorns' victory.

Oakley player of the match was Reace Keating, who won every tackle and header throughout.
