SUE Mather’s quest to become Concept 2 Rowing’s world number one ended in disappointment.
Mather, 60, was taking part in the 60-65 years age category at the British Indoor Rowing Championships at Birmingham.
Having clocked practice times in the 2,000 metres which were fast enough to make her the country’s record holder, she fell short on the day and was only able to improve on her personal best time.
She told the Standard: “The British Indoor Rowing Championships went well but although I got a personal best of eight minutes 37.9 seconds, I only acheived fourth place.
“The bronze medallist beat me by 12 seconds and the gold medallist rowed a time of 7m 51s. It was a great day though.”
Mather’s previous personal best was 8m 43.
